Introduction

In 1954 NCCU was re-established in Taiwan. When the university was expanded in 1958, the Ministry of Finance requested the establishment of a Department of Finance and Taxation. This was to foster the development of experts in the field of public finance and taxation.

Following the economic development according to the government's National Construction Plans, great importance was attached to the the management resources of public departments and experts in the field of policy analysis. Therefore, public finance management and taxation were given equal importance. Beginning in 1990 the department recruited students for these two subjects in separate classes. Then from 1994 the classes were split into taxation, public finance management and public economics. This helped to further maximise the future development of the curriculum.
